St. John’s Youth

Letter from Youth Co-ordinator Debbie Plant

Youth Group will be starting up as of September 12th and our first supper will be hamburgers with veggies n dip, some salad and finish with some ice cream.  As this will be our first opportunity to get together, the night will be a time to get acquainted, ask for suggestions of things to do coming up and ideas for what everyone will want to do and food they would like for supper each Monday.  The cost for the suppers is a toonie ($2.00) to help defer the cost of the meal.

I get to the Church for 3:30 p.m. on Mondays and all are welcome any time after that.  They may come straight from school and start their homework, help make the meal and then, just hang out.  The helpers for the meal will be on a rotation basis so that all will have a chance to cook and not just one person is doing it.  We have use of the gym until 5:30 and I am hoping that some parents may want to come out and coach the Youth for an hour in the gym about once a month.  The coaching could be for basketball, volleyball, drills or a few games of dodgeball.  Pickleball is played every Monday night by an outside group, so we can only play for a short time after school.  Please give this some thought.

The Youth Group started ten years ago with just five Youth and no place to call our own.  We were then given the room downstairs and it has been a long time since anything has been done to it.  The senior Youth of St. John’s have started a very ambitious project for this year – an overhaul of their Youth Room.  We were together in August to make plans and start to work on the room.  It is taking shape and will be completely done by the end of the year.  Many hands make light work so we will have opportunities in the next few months for all of us to get together and pitch in.
